True Flow's response

Recommended Posts

I asked True Flow if they were going to make an intake for my truck. I've heard good things about them and over at DTW they did a dyno with one and it was even BETTER than True Flow actually states. Over 30ft/lbs of REAR WHEEL torque just with the intake. Dyno proven... anyway Here is what they had to say about it. My truck is a '97 with the Vortec 5.7. I really don't understand what he trying to say here. What is the difference? The newer trucks don't come with a "cold air" intake. What gives?

"Steve,

I am sorry to say that we will not offer a system for that vehicle. The 97 Chevy's did not have a true cold air option like today's vehicles have which our system needs to work. We do offer a filter for it that is 66% better at trapping dirt than the leading gauze filter while still flow a lot more air than you engine can use. Thank you for your interest in True Flow.

Well, a "cold air" intake pulls air from outside the engine compartment. I had an aftermarket one on my Acura and it rounted the air filter down into a compartment between the bumper and wheel well that was sealed off from the engine. The theory being you get cooler and more dense air than if its pulled from the engine area where it gets warmed.

So I'm guessing the layout of the truck you have doesn't make a cold air possible. I'm surprised that you can't get a normal aftermarket intake system, but maybe "Jacob" and you are thinking of two different things....

Actually, they do. The air filter box intake port extends through the engine compartment side wall behind the right side fender. While it's not "high performance", the air sucked in comes from the fender area and not the engine compartment.
