Easy remote start install for 95-up

I was looking around in O'reilly's yesterday and I saw a harness for a remote starter install. It was made for GM vehicles and showed many apps on the back of the package. It said 95-02 trucks and SUVs also. It was a complete harness that plugs between the steering colun harness and the dash harness where they plug together with that little black junction box. The price was 19.99 and it looks like it could save a lot of work and save the dash harness from being cut up too. i have never seen this item before and I thought I would let everyone know that it is available if you are planning on installing a remote starter.

Trust me, take your Tahoe to a professional and have them install the remote starter. Your vehicle comes with Passlock 2 anti-theft from Gm and it's a complete pain in the arse to bypass. If you have the module it's easier but if you set it off during installation you will be locked out of the vehicle (starting it) for 15 mins even if you use the key to start it. Also if the unit or installation fails and strands you somewhere you won't be happy. Spend the dough and let someone else do it while you have a coffee or something, you'll thank me later.

Trust me, take your Tahoe to a professional and have them install the remote starter. Your vehicle comes with Passlock 2 anti-theft from Gm and it's a complete pain in the arse to bypass. If you have the module it's easier but if you set it off during installation you will be locked out of the vehicle (starting it) for 15 mins even if you use the key to start it. Good advice however, I have installed several remote starters on passlock 2 vehicles and have had no problems. One chrysler town and country had to be wired so the doors would UNLOCK when the remote starter was activated, strange but true. If you are mechanicaly inclined I think youo should be ok, your call. Remote starters are GREAT!!!!!!

Oh yeh, does anyone have a web site for O'reily's? I have never herd of them but would like the connector mentioned for my 99 Silv.

I trust ME when it comes to doing anything on my truck.

It will be done right. And done far cheaper than any shop will do it.

But thats just me.

OK 99-2door....Is it a remote starter, or just the harness?

Because for 20 bucks, (if it's a remote start), I will be waiting there in the morning when they open.

No it is just the harness, It had the wires labeled that you need to connect to and had connectors on each one. I was really just looking while my brother was checking out. I wish I had paid more attention to it now, like the man. etc. Later I got to thinking about it and decided the forum might like to know. I will see if I can dig up a part #. The store is in a neighboring town, but I will probably go there tomorrow. I will stop in and get the info if I go.

Or as my niece, who is just learning to read, called it one day, O'Really Auto Parts. It's an Auto-zone like operation. Good place to get quick things as long as you don't listen to advice from anybody that works there. The things the salespeople say often has me thinking, Oh Really?

A lot of people trust themselves when working on their own vehicles. I'm not saying that it's impossible or you can't do it, just that it can be a pain in the rear if you screw up. Secondly, most remote start companies offer warranty on the product if installed by an authorized installer. When I was in that industry I offered lifetime warranty on the installation for any product that we installed. This covered wiring etc.

My 98 Suburban has a remote starter on it and it works fine, they are great when installed properly.

The problem with the Chysler Town & Country was that the alarm has to be disabled with a negative pulse which unlocks the doors. To combat this you need an output that will pulse the lock wire after the vehicle has started. Passlock 1 systems are far more difficult to bypass than Passlock 2. Passlock 2 just needs a black box and that's it.
