DVD player and LCD screen options

I'm looking for options for installing a DVD player and a 7" LCD into the Tahoe... anyone seen some sort of custom kits for the center console where the Tape deck and CD storage flip-up thing go?

I'm thinking about putting a 7" flip up LCD from Legacy in the CD holder area. Would love to have the DVD player in the tape deck area, but I realize it's going to take some cutting or something to get any of them to fit well.

Anyone done this before? Anyone have pictures of how it looks installed?

The best advice I can give is learn how to do fiberglass fabrication. You will always get what you want exactly the way you want it. I learned about a year ago or so and have done many interior mods to my truck, it is pretty easy and straight forward. before you do the mods on your truck practice fabbing other random s**t, just to get an idea of how fiberglass actually works.

I purchase one of these from Sam's club. It has a removable screen that can be mounted anywhere. It also came with a bag and straps that you can hang on the back of a seat or wherever. I put some snaps on the sides of the screen housing. Then I made some nylon straps about 4" long with snaps on one end and "S" hooks on the other. Then I opened up the Sunglasses holder on my overhead console and drilled a couple of holes in the inside sides of the compartment. I also went to radioshack and purchased a video extension cord and ran it above the headliner down to the rear passenger floor where my son sits. Now I can open the sunglass compartment, hang the screen, plug it in and we are in business. I can also still use it anyhere else if I choose.

I like the look of that unit Taaaaaaahoe? posted. That is a bit on the pricey side though considering decent 7" TFT LCDs are going for ~$100 on ebay. Any idea where to get that plastic piece? If I can get a part number that'd be awesome.

scottac, how did you learn to do fiberglass fabrication? Might be another idea if that plastic piece doesn't exist just to create a new fiberglass piece using the existing piece as the template...

Keep in mind that most of the tutorials you will see are going to be for speakers and such. but it is the general theories behind working with fiberglass that is important.

Sorry to bring this up again... but... surely someone has to know the part number for the blank face!

I've only been able to locate the trim piece that already has the holes cut for the tape deck and the CD holder thing. Is there not a blank face plate that just covers the entire thing?

u could do some in the visors... like this...

i put 5" TFT LCD's. they are actually pretty clear even from the backseats. the problem with the kit above form ebay, is that backseat peoples cannot see it if is mounted on the bottom in the middle. know what i mean. ur better off having something mounted on the ceiling, a flip down. u can find them on ebay or even go to ur local audio shops, most peeps are carrying those systems now... hope this helped.

I've got a 5" monitor in the visor as well, works nicely.

As for the part number for the "blank face plate" there is no such animal. You can take off the piece on yours and get the part number off the back. It should run you about 15-20 bucks at partszoneonline.com

I *rarely* have anyone in the backseat... unless the back seats are folded down, wink wink nudge nudge. So until I have kids and a suburban instead of the hoe... ;)

I am probably going to install the headrest LCDs, it looks like a fun project for me. I like these types of building things, feel some sort of accomplishment when it looks good. I'm a sick puppy, yes.
