2021 GM valve spring issue

Recommended Posts

3 day old 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali with 100 miles engine stopped going 50mph on a hwy.
Dealer thinks it’s a broken valve spring which impacts wide range of GM 8cyl engines.
See service bulletins and recalls on various web discussions on this and few other serious issues on 2021 Yukon.
Such a disappointment after coming back to domestic manufacturer after 20 years of a dozen+ trouble-free foreign car experiences.

Anyone else already went through this experience?  Were there engine damages?

Thanks.

Its a 2 or 3 month build window they are investigating.

If you have a 6.2, make sure they FOLLOW GM's instructions and replace ALL the valve springs.  Its thought that its a metallurgy issue with the materials used by the spring supplier, and GM has been investigating this pretty heavily.

Also, any of them that fail, it all happens within 500 miles or less.  There is some reports with the new C8 Corvette too.  So far only 2 or 3 of the reported Vette failures got an engine, but remember, GM has built about 13,000 Vettes, so 2 or 3 engines out of a 2-3 month window out of 13,000 cars is a very small catastrophic failure rate.

Same here 2021 Tahoe 5.3l, 130 miles on it.Wife first drive and starts it up —engine  rocks and roll all over the place and then dies in driveway. Merry Xmas . #4 valve spring is busted. Dealer swears all is fine. Wife does not want it-“no longer a new car”....the fixed vehicle sits at dealer. Just pulled my vacation for holidays. Safer at work.
