1999 Silverado Bouncy Ride

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased a used 1999 Silverado LS with the V-6 and was wondering how to tame the ride. Bridgestone tires are decent and the shocks seem ok. I haven't owned a truck for years and I remember the ride quality was a little better.

if it's got stock shocks, that is the problem.

the shocks that come on these trucks from the factory are the most miserable excuse for truck shocks I've ever seen.

I know when I put a set of Rancho RSX's on mine, magically the truck stopped dipping under light braking, didn't bounce when towing, etc ....

They didn't use aluminum frames in 99.

99, 2000, no difference in the frame.

Yeh, my 99 frame is steal. My 99 also rides worse than my 90!!!!!

Maybe i'll try some better shocks although, I just put new ones on about 8500 miles ago. But they were not highline shocks. :D:devil::devil:

I run 35 psi in the tires. I stopped at the local firestone store tonight and the manager told me the shocks were fine. After examining the tires he did tell me the duellers that are on my truck are about shot and that these tires are made of a very stiff compund and probaly were not the best choice for replacement when the time came. I checked out a few different tires he had and think I will go with the firestone destination le. Anybody have any experience with these? Good warranty and are on sale now.

You might want to read up on Velvet Ride Shackles. Basically, they smooth out the rough edge that road irregularities give and tames rough bounces in the back. They feel similar to your placing a few bags of sand next to your tailgate.

I have had these for several months and would never have another truck without them.

guys

trust me you 99 owners did have a much lighter frame due to

an aluminum alloy design(may have some STEEL in it but not much,

very easy to tell (even though the 99 i had was replaced and i saw it

with my own eyes)

get under that truck and take a butter knife and scrape back some

of that ultra thin undercoating to the metal --AAHHHH_ see that metal

coming off with just that butter knife

STEEL usually doesn't do that

again , just my own experience with my 99 and the dealer

There is nothing aluminum about any part of the main frame.

ok xrman

since your with me ( )

why is it that 99 have a major bounce problem regardless

of shocks or tire

and maybe why it's cheaper to replace the frame than to

take it to a frame shop

i believe if you answer that then the person who originally

posted would very much appreciate it.

just my .02 worth
