This is from a few months ago, but it keeps coming back to me and wondered what others infer?  And, with the "lead time" reference at the end, it looks like things will change faster?

More Change At GM

He's just finished shaking up the GM product-development system, but Vice Chairman Bob Lutz tells the PM.Zone that other significant changes are in the offing for the long-struggling carmaker. "There are always going to be changes, because GM is in a constant state of evolution," Lutz stresses. While he declines to say what his next target will be, company insiders suggest several possibilities such as GM's marketing and advertising operations. Lutz says that about 70 percent of the vehicles now in the GM product plan would likely face some level of second-guessing as part of the recent product-development changes. In some cases, that could result in a complete change in such things as exterior design. The new development system, Lutz says, will require a third fewer workers and take up to 8 weeks off the typical vehicle's lead time. Most important, "the purpose is to guarantee home runs," he says.

That is sort of why I think this stes info on the Silverado SS is wrong. GM officially reported that they will soon have a performance divison(like BMW Motorsport, or Ford SVT) that is supposed to be tuning, among other thing "certain GM trucks". Well the Silverado SS stats I see is nothing tuned. Its a rebadged Serria C3 with a sport package. And do you think Lutz, who was a mojor player in the creation of the Viper, would want a "muscle" truck like this to get out to compete with the like of the Lightning and SRT-10 Ram? that wouldn't make much sense, would it? Of course, the SS may end up being the SECOND fastest Silverado. It would be cake to put the LS6 in the Silverado engine bay. As I've personally said for around 2 years now.

I wish i could agree with ya!  The info we posted is from a dealers memo that went out a few weeks ago. Strait from GM.

What does the future hold, we don't know, but we do know what the 2003 Silverado SS is going to be.  :(

It's about time!  I think they should start with the marketing department.  GM needs some Killer marketing help!
