Hose hanging near transfer case

I concur, most likely a vent hose. I also suspect it was never connected during assembly as it shouldn't build any/enough pressure to pop off unless it's blocked.

 

I just checked my 2020, 5.3L, 2 speed transfer case (Z71,) and the hose is connected to my transfer case at that location.

 

I found the vent tube from the front differential of my 2018 Colorado disconnected in the same fashion on day 1 of ownership. Not being on an informative forum like this at the time, I went to the dealership and looked at other 4x4 Colorados and determined it was a vent tube.

The transmission isn't venting into the transfer case or vice versa. Generally the vent tube travels to the top of the bell housing where it attaches to a breather valve and a bracket. I believe GM has, in the past, had a "Y" connector in the hose attached to the transmission vent hose to allow both to vent through the same breather valve. I don't know if they still do that or not.

RWTJR, I’ve heard that about the Y connector, I tried to trace mine up to the other end but can’t see it.  But looking at the diagram of the link you posted, that is the exact tube I am talking about. And it clearly shows being connected to the transfer case from the transmission.  Thanks for all the info.
