Looking for a Tahoe with 3rd Seat Option

I am searching for a 2001 Tahoe with 3rd seat. I don't care if it is missing as I can add it later. However, I just realized something that may be important..

If I find a truck that NEVER had a 3rd seat, does that mean it Always has the Barn Doors? Or is it possible it still has the Lift hatch.

I know Barn doors WONT accept the 3rd seat.

I've been lead to believe that if the truck did not have the third seat option in it from the factory, then a third seat cannot be added. Appearantly the floor is different, and the mounts are not there.

I suppose it is possible to find one where someone removed the seat and sold it though...

On a 2001 and higher you can addit if one never existed. You just need the seat mounting hardware and the seats. Both can be had on E-bay..

But.. If they have Barn doors you are out of luck...

So can I assume if no seats were ordered initially you automatically get barn doors?

No,

Bard doors are still an option. You can get the normal atch without 3rd row from the factory.

In fact the Z71 up till 04 was NOT aval with 3rd row for what ever reason, and it comes in the hatch.

If the Tahoe has barn doors, the 3rd seat is not compatible. It might even have the mounting hardware underneath the carpet, but supposedly the third row seat will not fit with the barn doors.

You are able to get the lift gate and not get the 3rd row seat too, and you can add it in later.

When we were looking for the wifes Tahoe, we wanted the barn doors with the 3rd row seat. We where told the same thing everybody else is saying here... Can't do that. Anybody know why? I didn't see any reason why... I really prefer the barn/cargo doors over the lift gate...

Sorry to jump in on someone else's thread here with my own question, but... What is it about the barn doors that you barn door-prefering people like? That is, why did/do you want the BD's over the single lift door? (That's not a rhetorical question -- I'm actually interested in what you see as the benefits.)

For me, the lift door was the only way to go. I'd rather be able to open the door with one hand if need be (and have it open up and stay up mostly on its own). I like the idea of being able to get out of the elements (GREAT for tailgating!) by standing under the opened hatch. I like being able to sit on the bumper freely (again, another plus when it comes to tailgating). I like the easy flip-open window for piling stuff in the rear... I just saw too many pluses with the hatch that I couldn't see any reason to NOT get one.

Thanks!

For us, we were looking at the barn/cargo doors 'cause we could open them when the Hoe was in the garage or otherwise tight on space. We got a lot of junk in the garage and while the Hoe fits, we can not open the lift gate thingy unless the garage door is open. Might not be a problem ifn ya got the extra room... Other than that, we just got used to them on the 'burb we had...
