I just spent over $500.00 to replace a water damaged antenna on my 2017 GMC Denali.  Got in the Denali after a storm and had water dripping down the driver side post at the headliner.

GMC sent out a bulletin (Document ID: 4828810) to its Dealers notifying them of an issue with the orientation of the water gap on the gasket used to seal the the Shark Roof antenna which allows water to "weep" away from under the antenna where it sits on the roof.  The bulletin identified vehicles from 2015 to 2018 having this issue - significant number of vehicles.

This gap faces the rear of the vehicle.  Their "solution" is to turn the gap to the front of the vehicle.  The part was $175.00 and labor was $320.00.

After reading about what is eligible for a "Recall," I don't feel this qualifies.  However, for a solution that was so simple to fix, yet so expensive why am I responsible for this expense when it was an error in manufacturing?

Questions:

Why was I as a GMC vehicle owner not notified of this as an issue,?

Why am I forced to pay for a manufacturing issue created by GMC?

Any ideas on re-course? I am sure I  am not the only one with this issue...

I am having the same problem. I just googled the antenna removal and cost of a new antenna. My GM dealership wants $600-800.00 to replace it. I too never received notice of any recall. The part is supposed to run approximately $120.00 retail and the labor time is 30 minutes to an hour to replace. I can't justify $600-800.00 for the replacement.

Put a thin bead of this around the antenna or just a little blob at the hole.

Car washes will eventually rub this away so keep that in mind.

Hi  First time posting so not sure if Im doing it right. But I have a 2016 Silverado LT I have the red X going through GPS that so many have. So reading all the stories about the water leak that damages the antenna  I bought the new shark antenna with the hole in seal facing foward and lower angle ( which by the way I dont see how that helps much seeing how when you drive in the rain you will still get water intrusion ) Anyway I installed it with extra sealant . No rain yet but not worried about that. But I still have the red X on the gps  so still not working any ideas ? Thanks in advance for any help.

The issue of a "Shark Roof Antenna Leak" is quite concerning. A leaking antenna not only compromises the integrity Xfinity Cable And Internet Packages  of your vehicle's roof but also poses potential electrical hazards. It's essential to address this problem promptly to prevent further damage and ensure safety. I recommend seeking professional assistance to properly diagnose and repair the leak. Ignoring it could lead to more extensive and costly repairs down the line. Remember, taking proactive steps now can save you from bigger headaches later on.

My wet cable always dried out and the light went back to green.  You might need a new cable.
