2011 Silverado 1500 4x4, cast iron lower control arms. The old ball joint was some kind of non-OE with a grease fitting and a snap ring on the top. The new GM ball joints (19209396) did not come with snap rings. They also basically dropped in with a whack from a hammer, did not need to be pressed in.

Do the OE lower ball joints use a snap ring, and do I need to replace the control arm if the new joint goes in so easily?

So the OE ball joint is meant to be crimped down onto the control arm instead of using a snap ring. I'm just going to get a different set with snap rings, and if they are still loose then I will have to get a new control arm.
