New Silverado 2500hd owner (2022 LT)

The backup camera has 2 options to select from the vehicle path or trailer path but does not allow hitch view. Is that something the dealer can activate? Also, the camera quality is poor. At night the screen is so bright and grainy it can barely be used. In the Ram I traded in I could set different trailers and see very clearly. With this new truck hooking up the trailer is a challenge to say the least. What can be done to make this better? Window sticker says it has the trailering package with hitch guidance but when I search that this vehicle clearly does not have those options. Is this an error on GM or what? Thanks for any input.

I don't know about LT trims but my LTZ has Task Lighting and that provides an LED light in the tailgate that lights the hitch area at night making hitching the trailer easier.  From what I've read, camera features cannot be added if not installed at the factory.

The reason the display is grainy is due to the system trying to display detail that isn't easily captured in low light.  Even the best cameras struggle when there is too little light.  The solution is to add a light either on the trailer or the truck that can provide the extra light needed for the camera.

I just spoke with the dealership I purchased from. They said Chevrolet sends a task list with each vehicle and that list directs them to add or remove features based on what packages each vehicle is sold with. He said this vehicle should have had the dark essentials badging added and the camera system activated to include the hitch guidance features and trailer memory features. At the time of purchase I elected not to have the badges changed so the vehicle was not sent to the service dept for the task list to be completed. So my camera is hd but is not activated therefor giving poor picture quality. Bringing it back on Monday and we will see if it's better. I would have thought Chevrolet would have sent the truck with activated options at the time they built it......

Let us know how that goes.  I have never heard of dealers having that ability so I'm all in to see if they can in fact add the features you want.

Well, after time at the dealer and speaking with the Chevrolet rep here is what I learned.... 7 months ago Chevrolet canceled the trailer view as part of the hitch guidance package on the HD LT line and reserved it for the High Country and LTZ lines. The advanced trailering package was halted on the LT line because Chevrolet felt they should offer all or nothing. They said this was due to supply constraints. I was told that they have submitted a case file for my truck to Chevrolet to see if they will permit the advanced trailering software to be added even though I don't have the dual camera tailgate handle because the camera isn't used for that software to recognize or store trailer info. They also said that the website states hitch view is a part of the package I have because they plan to resume that on the LT models at some point. They did offer to allow me to upgrade the truck camera package with the power tailgate option for $4700. Not spending that! Certainly disappointed that the info was misleading. Live and learn I guess.

My truck was in yesterday and went around with this.  I was told the cameara systems and the head unit(radio) in general have lots of problems in the 21.  I guess a few months back there was an update to these cameras and the dealer was doing it but it would only last a few days or so and then go back, and since then GM has stopped doing any updates.

Dealer was hopeful a new TSB will be out to fix a lot of this stuff.  Told them my brakes suck to and they were expecting a recall or tsb soon much like the 20s had
