2016 suburban ltz with auto running board that malfunction and often times try and close then retract., again And again. Any suggestions to keep them functioning?

I’m all over it.   Been using on blaster for a week. They function,  then get stuck.  For 6 months they run great and now last two weeks go up half way then back down or stick every day.

does it make sense to power wash joints then use penetrating oil or just penetrating oil and push and pull on the running board to free-up and function as designed ??

Power wash could help. I would shut off the dash switch and give it enough time to dry the electronics/motor out. Compressed air may help. I've had some that just could not be brought back to full  functionality. Very expsensive to fix.

Is this just considered a consequence of having the automated running boards?  Like when I have the regular maintenance service done should I have them service the running boards too?

On the passenger side of the 'burban the boards only deploy inconsistently when the rear door is opened.  However always when the front passenger door is opened.

When I was shopping for my 2023 High Country one of the options I wanted was the auto-running boards.....

But, I could not find the other options I wanted and the color I wanted with them installed.

So, I bypassed them.......after the fact I'm so glad I did not get them. I've talked to several owners with them and in Minnesota Winters they are nothing but a headache.

Glad I got the permanent mount running boards instead.......no desire any longer to get the auto units.
