Flowmaster Problem??

I was told that Flowmasters would eventually rust out. Has anybody experienced this problem?

My friend had a ram where the baffles inside broke/melted/whatever. I had to replace mine once on the blazer, but it was broken because the cat failed and blew it's crap into the flowmaster, and clogged it. I have one on my HD now, with 33K miles so far so good.

Friend of mine had a 50 Series on his Ford Supercrew and after 2 years it wouldn't pass inspection, had to replace.

That's actually a very common problem with Flowmasters. That's why I went with a Magnaflow on my wife's Mustang GT......stainless steel not aluminized like the flows....they sound great but like I said it's a known problem...put a Magnaflow catback under it and you'll be very happy

I haven't had a problem with mine. I just took some high temp rustoleum and sprayed it black. It looks much better.

If you are worried about rust, get a stainless steel flowmaster. They started making them for about twice the price of a regular FM.

I'm surprized at this, You would think they had a lift time warranty?

 

I just installed a set of Custom Bluebottles, as I couldn't afford "brand name". Plus I wanted more bark out of the old dog, Life Time Garantee w/ Parts and Labor.

I get about 2 years from Flowmasters here in New England, that's to be expected with all the winter weather and salt they use on the roads. I've run them in every truck I've had. They're cheap to buy, you can usually get them on sale for 50-60 bucks, then after 2 years I get to change the tone louder or quieter, whichever I choose!

I live in New England also and have 40 series flows which I have had for about 2 years. A little rust around the edges is all that is showing, nothing major, of course I did sand them down and spray paint them with VHT 1200 degree flamproof paint. They seem to be holding up really well.

I'm glad we don't have rusting problems down here.
