Sooo got the dreaded lifter tick on my truck. Passenger side lifters need replacing. about 4k from dealer. How often when these go is it likely the drivers side will go? I've got about 77k miles on it. Tempted to trade it in on something else.

If you love the truck and it is paid off, find an independent shop to replace lifters and delete AFM.  You should be good to go from there on out.

There's that old saying "the cheapest vehicle is probably the one you already own", so I agree with the poster above me. I'd have it fixed, delete the DOD system while at it if you haven't yet. I guess the only other major factor is rust, if it's not too bad you can keep throwing parts at her for another 77k easy, but I see you're Canadian so worth mentioning eventual rust repair being a big factor in that consideration as well.

Although I do see a lot of folks with perfectly clean frames leaving the platform once this issue is encountered, and I kinda feel stupid for jumping into it myself knowing full well, so I couldn't really blame you any way you go.

The passenger lifters on my 6.2 had to be replaced at 102,000 miles. Luckily Chevy only charged labor at $1,100.00 even though I was 2,000 miles over the warranty.

Ticking again and shop said cam needs replaced. I am going after market cam and lifters with AFM delete. Just waiting for the shop to receive the parts. $5,800.00 for cam and E85 tune. Everybody else was quoting 5k for stock parts and install.

With only 77,000 miles I would go with the mild cam and AFM delete. Sure cheaper than buying an overpriced new truck at this time.

Well, got a pretty good offer on the truck, so it's being traded in. Placed an order for a 22 F150 w/HDPP.  Going to have a good wait for it. Hopefully we receive it before camping season starts.

Going to be a great ride when your done.  The E85 tune will wake it up for sure.  Love using E85.

I don't think I would pull the trigger just because you have some lifter noise. Even if the dealer said the lifter should be replaced, I would not count them out unless your having at least one consistent misfire on a cylinder. At the very least, I would start with the old OBD2 AFM disabler ($100). Then I would look at how to further disable and modify the AFM on that particular motor. Maybe run a bottle of motor flush. Maybe change to a heavier weight oil. Don't worry about voiding the warranty, because if you trade it in, that ..... voids the warranty. Trading your rig into the dealership makes them a LOT of money. And it costs you A LOT of money. Just say'n. Your payment stays the same, but the loan extends much further out. After you do this a few times, you pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, and by the time its all paid off, its time to .. trade it in for another contract? Do what makes you happy, but personally I would not throw the truck away until you have explored all options.
