Engine swap what would fit

I have a 1989 c1500 stepside with a worn out 5.7 350.. ive been looking alot at engines not sure what would bolt right in a 5 speed manual with out having to much trouble looking for more power hoping i can fit a bigger engine like a 383 or 454 or a ls swap any ideas on what engine?

You could do any of those swaps, just a matter of money and making the parts work.

 

You'd have to swap to a carburetor or go with a modern EFI system from Holley or the LS computer if doing a LS swap.

 

Your 5 speed transmission may like a lot more power and for sure the clutch will need to be beefed up. The 454 and even a hopped up 383 would likely grenade a weaker transmission.
