Steve27 Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 Hi! I have a 2002 gmc 1500 and I’m working on adding signal high country mirrors like the 03-07 can. I’ve been watching videos and doing research and from what I can gather, I need to take apart the high country mirrors I bought and wire in my harness for running light and then splice that into The truck somewhere with running light power. I also have to run a wire from the mirrors harness to my bcm turn signal locations. And I need to run a wire from my mirrors to a spot for reverse lights. The videos I’ve been seeing are using all kinds of fuses and messing with the fuse box and such and my father thinks they’re over doing it. (He has a master in electrical engineering). I’m wondering if I can just simply run the harness from my mirrors into pin B6 and B7 of my bcm no fuses or anything. Those are the turn signals. It’s not gonna draw that much power right? At the same spot there’s a wire for parking lights so that’s easy to theoretically. And the. Lastly I could run the reverse light wire back to the tail lights and get power from them. What do you think? Would this work?
dna9656 Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Your Dad ought to get a job at GM and let them know that FOR YEARS we did without BCMs; and had rear view mirrors we could (if we wanted to) add a signal light to the front and back side of a R/V mirror and integrate a relay (if ya wanted to spend the money) to turn the back up lights on at the same time if we wanted to. Yeah, over thinking to sell more parts and labor to an increasingly ignorant customer base that no longer works on the family tractor/truck, or car. Like the feature that keeps the radio on until you open the door, that used to be accomplished by the mark 1 vehicle operator; you turned the key to "ACC" if you wanted the radio on; other wise you turned it to the "off" position. Door sensors: if the dome light was on a door wasn't shut all the way. Now you have to figure out if it's the BCM (they cost more than $100.00) or the door latch (the price ranges from about $4.00 to the $90.00 range and they all look exactly the same!) If the doors were unlocked you locked them yourself.
