Chad H Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Hey guys, I finally got some extra money laying around and was wondering if I should buy headers. I want them for the added performance but also the sound. Here's the deal. I need a set that bolts up and will not leak. I installed a set of JBA's on my 99 model and they were s**tty. Leaked and added 0 performance. Also, I would like to get rid of the cats if somebody makes 02 sims. Thanks, Chad
BigDave Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I have to go with Dynatech the make full size headers and larger Y-pipes. and I am sure any Muffler shop could weld on some test pipes for you.Dynatech Headers
Chad H Posted January 19, 2004 Author Posted January 19, 2004 Those look like exactly what I am looking for!! I tried looking for a price on their site but couldnt get it load. Does any local vendor sell them? If so, how much. And I have one more question. Does anybody offer upgraded gaskets for them or header bolts? I am anal about gaskets and dont want that dreaded "tick-tick" noise all the time.
MyBigToy Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 The stock manifold gaskets are fine, you can reuse them, they are metal and will not leak. I found a new type of locking header bolts, they are expensive but you will only have to retorque them one time, after a few heat/cool cycles and the gaskets seat. I have had them on my truck for about 3 months now and they have not backed off any. As I said, they are expensive but they are a great product, especially if you don't want to ever have to mess with your headers again! Here's the link: Locking Header Bolts BTW, the whole Dynatech setup, including y-pipe and new cats, should set you back around $1395. MBT
greentahoe Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 $1400 for some headers and a Y pipe?? Why do you need new cats. Ive heard that the aftermarket ones flow little if anymore air over the stock ones. I thought TOG headers were a little steep at 600 a set and those are showing between 20-30 hp. I guess I'll stop tryin to pinch pennies and just go with those. For $1400 you could get TOG headers, Magnaflow catback, and Westers. I wonder which option would sound better and give more power.
atomoverride Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I heard there were some headers that were made out of CERAMIC...that were supposed to be the best for performance.....but I dont remember where I seen it...sorry I cant be more help..
