Hey everyone,

Just picked up a '22 Silverado and have encountered a problem when attempting to pull my 7x14 cargo trailer. At first, the trailer brakes will connect and the brakes themselves will work (able to hold the truck). After a couple presses of the brake pedal I will continuously get a message to check trailer wiring and then finally something akin to "Trailer Brakes Disabled"

My trailer is fairly new but I checked the wiring and all seems to be well. I even replaced the trailer-side plug. When that didn't work, I went to a trailer dealer and hooked up to a brand-new unit. Same exact problem.

The selling dealership now has the truck and while they do see fault codes relating to the switch (dash I am assuming?) and controller (rear frame?), they are unable to do anything for me. I was told there is some kind of information out there stating GM engineers are aware of the problem and are working toward tracing down the cause. The dealership wants to wash their hands of it and send me back down the road.

I would assume if it was a software issue intrinsic to these trucks then there would be people complaining about it left and right. I did ask if they would replace the switch and controller and was told Chevy would not agree to it. Instead, I was reassured GM is aware of the issue.

Really would like to get this thing playing nice with my trailer so I start hauling again. Does this sound right? Am I getting the run-around?

There is another thread on here about this... last time I checked no solution from GM yet. There is a code, I suspect the dealer will discover it while they are checking which will point them to the bulletin about the problem.

Search it out, the thread is something about trailer brakes and buggy rear camera.

Same issue on my 2019 Sierra. I took it to the dealer and was informed I needed to bring the trailer too. Went back and when they saw the 20' trailer, said they had no room to work on it. Also said the tech couldn't work on it outside. It happened mostly in heavy rain. I ran the on board self test, it didn't show any problems. Having said that, I don't tow anymore so I sold the trailer.
