Transmission issues

Hello all, driving my 2016 Silverado LT 5.3 6 spd with 120K miles home the other day when I felt what I thought at the time was misfiring - seemed to be "skipping" while coasting on the highway - heavier acceleration seemed ok. Got it home and started it the next day and it wouldn't go into gear - forward or reverse - just revving. Turned the truck off and started it again, was able to shift into D and got about 10 feet and then nothing, just engine revving. Didn't get much time to look at it before work but fluid level was fine. From doing some searching around here it seems like the torque converter could be the issue but wanted some feedback before I have it towed to a shop.

Lets do this first, just like going to the doctor:

 

Are you the original owner, do you know if the transmission is serviced regularly? Have you done any modes to it, or updated the thermostat, or flipped the "pill"? What was the operating temperature when it failed? Any problems before this epsiode?

 

Lots of things could be wrong, so I guess my question is, what type of feedback are you looking for? Do you trust the shop it is being taken too, or are you planning on disputing what they find with guesses from this sites members?

 

Not tryng to be completely facetious, or mean spirited, but machines fail, it just happens if we use them.

Pump is gone.  Torque converter has likely been failing and wiped the pump out.

 

We have one in right now getting rebuild, same symptoms, drive and reverse for about 10-20 feet after turning it on and then total loss.

 

The one here was FULL of clutch and metal debris.  4-5-6 clutch pack was smoked, as were the pump housings.
