When you drive a beater!

It was my mantra for decades. The “I can fix anything” is losing its luster. I have owned nothing but Chevy trucks and one GMC (Yukon) over the last 30 years. No other brand truck has been in my fleet. Lots of Chevy cars too.

I waited a tad too long to replace some of the family fleet. Shoulda done it before the kung flu.

Been a lurker. Been awhile since I’ve been here and I don’t recall all the pop ups.

The 2020 and newer models have got my attention. Weighing 6.6 gas/diesel, 2500/3500 currently. Used are priced…how can I say it politely…I can’t…pants on head retarded!

Coulda swore I signed up years ago. Maybe under an older email. Anyway, here to learn about new stuff and talk to like minded folks.

I'm with you, like no payments and my older trucks but those HD 2024s sure look nice inside!  All the new bells and whistles makes my 2013 look antique!

At this stage I'm looking at used and the outlook isn't promising.

What happened to "once it's driven off the lot it loses 10%"  ?

Used are just under what they stickered for or above by a few grand on some lots. If that is the way it stays 90 days from now, I'll order one exactly the way I want.

Here in Idaho, if a vehicle is 30 years old it qualifies for a Classic license plate. My 94 hits that next year! Of course those plates aren't for daily drivers though.

I’ve noticed some ( desirable) vehicles trucks or cars higher priced used than new. They are available. My local GMC and Ram dealer are offering discounts now. Amusingly I saw a 3 year old scat pack at my Honda dealer last week priced 2K less than a new one across the highway. I saw similar pricing for Mavericks and Broncos. My brother has been waiting two years for 3/4 ton Ford diesels to get reasonable. He finally ordered one.

Recently I've seen ads and hear on the radio that light duty trucks/suv's are starting to run special financing incentives. Hopefully it filters up to the HD market. There is one for those as well; 2.9% for 36 mo. Smart money considering interest rates. But dayum that payment size, unless a person has 40% to put down.

One reason for the high resale prices is inflation, a dollar today is worth a lot less then it was even a year ago.

My 2013 stickered for $51K and ten years later with 75K miles cost $30K.  A US dollar today is worth eighty-five cents compared to 2020.

And worth less than a 1955 nickel. For what my father paid for his home and one acre lot I can't put the same cedar siding on mine he has on his G-235 tract home. People and Government look at incomes and inflation in segments of a year. Try 70 and the picture is stupid. Sure, I can sell Pepper for more than I paid for her.....and then what? Won't make a down payment large enough to keep the payment less than the house payment was. Not unless I buy down. Mitsubishi Mirage down. :banghead:

It will keep right on going. People twenty today look at a fifty-dollar bill like I looked at a nickel as a child.

I did the "build a truck" in 2020 on Chevrolet dot com. A custom trim level with the 6.6 gas, 2500. With options that I wanted for towing a camper. A less optioned 2023 2500 Custom is almost $7k more. Geez! I thought I couldn't afford it then....

Wish I had a crystal ball a few years ago. Hell ten years ago. I'd have bought bare land in my area. And I could just sell it now and be paying cash for a new truck..

I do see the time of "buy low, sell high" for cars coming to end. Just not all at once. I know I certainly did plenty of that (not intentionally). Inventory is slowly stabilizing for some brands. So we'll see.

In either case, welcome to the forum, and post some pics!
