Would this RPO (VR4 Trailer Hitch Weight Distributing Platform) be considered a weight distributing hitch?

I don't know about that specific RPO Code, but most hitches state on the tag on the hitch what weights it is capable of hauling, both as a straight pull, and as a weight distributing hitch.

 

I don't know of any class III, IV or V hitches that aren't capable of being weight distributing hitches. The factory hitch on the HD's is a class V hitch.

That RPO is for the receiver -- the part that's bolted to the frame of your truck -- and not the hitch itself (which is what goes into the receiver). Any class III or greater receiver, which all use the 2" openings, can handle a WDH.

Actually, I was just trying to clear up the confusion that the original poster had. I know you knew what it all meant.

I think mines only a class III. Are you sure yours is a V?

I just looked and it says V-5 Talon... 7500lb straight tow and 12000lb weight distributing. I assummed the V-5 meant Class V...

That sounds more like a IV then a V. Usually, V's will have a 15K WDH capacity. Hmm...

V-5 is a testing process... ranch hand bumpers are V-5 tested as well and offer a 10K LB tow rating/1k tongue, when pulling off the bumper. when you add a bolt on reciever you are getting farther away from the truck and it drops down to 5K Lb draw and 500Lb tongue. both setups are V-5 tested though.

That makes more sense, because I really didn't think GM was putting class V's on.
