Horn Stopped Working

I just found your forum so I'm new here and I'm hoping someone can offer a little guidance. This morning on the way to work my horn stopped working. I have a 2001 Ext-Cab Silverado Z71. Pushing the horn button yeilds nothing. If you double tap the keyless entry lock button it will beep, so I know the physical horns are fine. Is there a fuse specifically for the horn? I looked under the interior fuse panel and didn't find one. Also the cigarette lighter has stopped working recently as well. Is there perhaps another panel I need to look for? or is the fuse tied in with something else? I hate to take it back to the dealership for such a trivial thing, since the warranty has now expired.

Thanks for any information.

there was another post just recently about someone blowing their horn fuse.

when i lost the horn on my truck - turns out there was a bad relay under the steering wheel (i think it is a relay - it is a white plastic thing with a bunch of wires coming into and out of it. the plastic piece actually looked like the insides had exploded).

anyways, i lost the horn and had no brake lights (might want to check those just in case).

first and foremost welcome to the forum.

since your horn still chirps when you push the button on your fob we can rule out the horn getting soaked and being dead.

I'm guessing the keyfob's unlocking mechanism is wired into the horn a second way so my best guess would be that there is a problem with the wiring between your steering wheel and the horn (or possibly the spring sensors in your wheel).

I wouldn't think it would be a fuse because it still works when you hit your key fob.

There's a fuse box under the hood and on your drivers side on the side of the dash when you open the door.

I'm guessing you blew the fuse for your cigarette lighter (i've done that before too). Replace that first and it may quite possibly have been affecting your horn.

Thanks for the replies. I just went out and found the under hood fuse panel. The horn and Cigarette lighter fuses are both intact and just for good measure I checked to see that the brake lights etc were working and they were. I'm leaning more towards a problem with the switch itself now, unless maybe the relay next to the horn fuse is blown. There again, if the horn beeps with the keyless entry, I wouldn't think this would be blown either.
