Stabilitrack/limited slip

Hey Guys,

 

I am looking at 4WD Tahoes for the family. Really like the limited slip, but all of the Tahoes around here seem to have the Stabilitrack. I know you can't get Stabilitrack with the limited slip, but can I add the limited slip later? Will it work with Stabilitrack? Any help would be appreciated.

You won't even need the limited slip with the Stabilitrak. My Tahoe with Stabilitrak is much better than my 2001 Suburban Z71 was with Limited Slip. I would get Stabilitrak again if I bought a new one. It handles great.

All the StabiliTrak trucks have 4-wheel 4-channel sensors for the Stability Control and ABS, with traction control added. If a single wheel is slipping, the ABS motor is pulsed for that slipping wheel and you will transfer power to the other wheel.

 

This is the unlike regular production with the G80 "locker" in the rear: those trucks have a VSS in the transfer case for the rear, so the speed is "average" for the rear and a 3-channel setup.

 

The G80 seems to work nice, and may be better for "true" offroad use. I've been offroad ONCE in 4 years. For real-world use, the electronic stability and traction control is FAR superior: quicker, quieter, safer etc.

 

One other advantage: since you have an open carrier in the rear axle, you do NOT need a synthetic gear lube with special friction modifiers for the clutch plates. You could even justify getting a commercial synthetic gear lube like Mobil MobilLube SHC 75W-90 to service both axles.

 

Without the friction modifiers for clutch plates, and the somewhat increased drag from the clutch plates, the axle will be more efficient. Using the SHC 75W-90, you might gain 0.5 - 1 MPG.
