Several times the driver side mirror camera has not worked, and the surround view displays a black block all the way down the left side of the truck.  When the camera does work, it flickers between an image and a black block on that side.  Has anyone experienced this and know what the fix was?

I've already had the camera module replaced twice, and a tailgate camera replaced once for the black screen and red exclamation point when putting it in reverse, and now this.  Between the parking sensors randomly disabling themselves and being unable to toggle on or off via the switch, repeat camera issues, and repeat check engine lights for misfires with 5 attempted repairs, it's sure frustrating.  Are all these new trucks just destined to have electrical gremlins now?

Gremlins comment, pretty much.

GM has real bad EMC/EMI issues these days and it's hard to say if its related to that or its bad signal to noise ratio for the camera feeds in general.

Of course software on the modules could also do this and drop out but likely you have a deeper issue than just the camera module itself.

Might need to replace/reflash the main ECU that takes all those camera feeds together or play around with grounding the coax camera lines to the chassis at the ECU itself.

Not sure where they go to or what the ECU is called but the same methodology applies to all the new hot garbage GM pumps out on any vehicle architecture.

the biggest problem with all manufacturers is they keep adding more computers but they don't update the software to diagnose the systems. i feel sorry for some of the techs today because they can't do their job without the right equipment. so you bring your vehicle in when it is still under warranty and first thing is to fire the parts cannon and hope for the best. or they have to totally disassemble your vehicle in hope of finding a problem. your mirror problem is probably a connection problem but in order to find the problem your rear seat has to be removed or your door has to be taken apart. when you are out of warranty you are sol. now a days you have to know how to use an ocilliscope

Can someone tell me the best way to take the bottom housing of the mirror off so I can cleans d seal the coax connection. I notice that it blacks out much more after I’ve gotten a lot of dust and water I side the cover. It seems to just be the driver side and clears up with a clean dry truck.

I have had the same issues with my 2019 AT4. My cameras tend to go out when it rains or I take the truck through the car wash. It seems like a lose connection somewhere.

Has anyone solved this issue? Just bought my AT4 this weekend. It was fine when I bought it and for the first few hours road-tripping home, drive through some heavy rain, and my drivers side camera looks just like it does in that picture up there. Came back on yesterday, and today it’s doing the same thing again.

Truck went back to dealer last week for the same problem again.  Dealer said they were replacing the left, right and rear camera harnesses but GM only approved the rear harness for replacement.  They claimed to find a short in the rear camera harness coax and the rear camera (that’s been previously replaced already) had an internal short in it.  Not sure how that makes the driver side camera go black or flicker but this was their solution.  They dropped the spare assembly and disassembled the whole tailgate to fix.  Time will tell if it rears its head again.  This is repair number 6 or 7 to the crappy HD surround vision system.

I bought my 2022 Silverado 1500 brand new in summer of 2022 and this issue began happening almost right away. It's been to the dealer over five times. One visit I had to wait several months for a wiring harness to come in that was on galactic backorder. This didn't even fix the issue when it did finally arrive. Currently today my dealer is STILL working with GM to diagnose the issue. Who knows when, or if, it'll ever be fixed. Anyone experiencing this issue, good-freaking-luck!

To me its clear GM has an issue with reliable electrical systems if it takes this many repairs and they keep throwing different parts at the system.  Since our last camera system repair we haven't had a camera failure yet, but the parking sensors have failed for the fifth time and will be going back for repairs at the next service visit.

Latest update… the driver side camera failed again.  Either flickering black or solid black. This is will be the 7th or 8th time to take it to the dealer for the same damn camera issue.  No faith GM even knows how to fix the cameras in these trucks.

One of these days I want to remove the rear seat and get to the VPM (video processing module), Im fairly certain simply grounding the coax shields for each cable to the VPM housing and then also to the body/frame would solve all these issues.

They AC couple the grounds for these camera lines so that DC current doesnt use them as a sink path if the main ECU ground fails open and it causes all kinds of EMC problems like camera drop outs and glitches.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
