Car and Driver tests them all

Car and driver ran a test between the Ford, dodge, nissan, toyota and chevy. We don't fare so well  ...last is where we finish...check it out on the C&D website

Motor trend did a similar test, of SUVs. Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Guess which truck was the "oldest"? The Chevy, guess which came in last? The Chevy. I haven't read the article yet to find out the reasoning. I do know that the Dodge won the comparison.

They can test all they want and it will never sway my opinion. I will NEVER own a Nissan or Toyota "full-size truck" as they like to call it, which it isn't, or any other foreign car/truck for that matter. I will NEVER own a Daimler-Chrysler vehicle either no matter what it looks like. So that leaves Ford and GM. With my past experiences with Ford's, that leaves the General and to tell you the truth, that is the best choice anyway.

Just my 2 cents worth. So test away...I'll buy another GM!!!

If Car & Driver is anything like Motortrend, their comparison tests are a joke. They apply car tests to trucks and then they will test a 1/2 ton of some models, 4x4 on some and 1 ton in some and try to compare the results. Give me a break. Also seems that whatever vehicle is new that year gets the award, or whoever happens to be running the biggest marketing campaign at the time $$$$$

Chevy's current truck is a 5yr old platform. It doesn't surprise me that it comes in last right now. It was the best when it came out in 99. Next redesign, Chevy will be #1 again.

I bet if you ranked the marketing dollars spent at Car and Driver, it would be rather coincidentally similar to the ranking so the tested vehicles. I only use magazine reviews as a low quality guide. Sometimes they point out things of interest (problems or praise) that I take into consideration as I do my own research and review of the vehicle.

Did you guys read the Car and Driver or Motor Trend comparo's? They were actually pretty much on target. Car and Driver mentioned that Chevy was getting behind in HP and interior. And all the trucks they tested were 4x4 crew cabs with the biggest engine package. Motor Trend also mentioned the interior and HP. I was dissappointed with both outcomes but they had some points. Don't get me wrong, I love Chevy's and would never drive another truck but the articles were good articles. Right now some other interiors have nicer materials and, other than the Toyota, the Chevy has the lowest HP upgrade engine. Notice I say right now, we'll be back on top soon!!

let's see, tied the Toyota in 0-60, beat the Ford, and tied for best gas mileage. Yet they complain about horsepower. That makes no sense to me. Then the statement, you have to give it the whip to maintain speed on grades..... give me a brake, i tow a boat with plenty of power to spare. Who the hell tests these trucks?

as far as the interior, looks just as good as the other trucks other than the ford. It has a nice look, but it's a brand new design too!

I'm with you man, The 5.3 has plenty of HP if anything GM underrates its power. I am not sure how they could not be happy with its power. I guess money does the real talking.

i dont even think its fair to compare the chevy in those tests, simply b/c the age is a factor, and for a 5 yr old truck, it performed in about the middle of the pack against the hemi and the ford, got the best gas mileage, avg handling, and IMO i rate my truck on what was availible at the time, in 2000 the ford was slower (as it is now) rode worse and had a lousy interior. i could go on forever, but the chevy is still the best, and if they want more power w/o compromising gas mileage, they should get the D.O.D. set up with the 6.0 against the other Suvs

Actually thats a fair and true statement. As I have heard from other 5.3L folks, and with my expierence with my truck, going up a not so difficult grade at 65MPH or so will cause the thing to kick down into drive to keep the speed up. It's very annoying and frusterating for me because none of the other vehicles I have driven do this. Just the way they have the tranny set up sadly. Not enough power to hold the speed going up a mild grade in overdrive at 65MPH in the stock 5.3L with an Auto tranny. This is one of the very very few complaints I have for the Silverado.
