Hi, pretty much I’m getting my first truck and I’m looking at a 2015 gmc Sierra with 115k miles. I’ve done my research and know about the common issues such as AC condenser replacement and other small issues that are no problem for me to replace on my own. I am in an auto shop class in school and consider myself handy enough to do maintenance and other work myself but are there any serious issues I should look for that would make the truck not worth it because of the price of replacing the parts or the amount of work going into it.  I’m just looking for pointers and what to expect to have to replace and maintain on the truck any advice helps, thanks.

CHECK MAINTENENCE RECORDS

I have had great luck with this truck, except the AC. Maintnence it key to the longetivity of the K2XX. Follow this religiously and you should be good + engine air filter every 20k.

I 1000% recomend an oil catch can and range AFM disabler

At that mileage Id check shocks and breaks, im almost at 120K and just did mine.

The only thing is CarPlay, no 2015 has it but most 2016's have it

Hello!

The above is a very good model to follow. I have been driving my 2014 almost every day for the past 7 years. I also do an oil change every 5000 or so miles with full synthetic (my oil life monitor is usually at 20% around the point that a change it, just as a reference). For everything else, such as differential, transfer case, etc. I follow the official GMC maintenance schedule and it hasn't let me down!

I would also stay on top of doing preventative maintenance on the transmission, the 6L80 can be very fragile. Keep it cool and keep the fluid clean! This is very important to ensure you get as much life out of it as possible.

One thing I would suggest is to see if any previous work was done on the radiator. These units crack and the cooling lines are also known to leak. This was the most expensive repair I ever put into the truck, as it wasn't something I felt comfortable doing on my own. However, if this has already been done, you should be good! If not, just be aware it could possibly happen. However, there are tons of tutorials detailing how to do the work yourself!

I have also had good luck with my truck. Just a tiny bit of maintenance goes a long way! 🙂
