Operating Temp

I have a problem of getting up to operating temp. I have 98 Yukon w/ HD towing and cooling. I am only getting up to 170F’ this is killing me at the pump. Any suggestion. I have already tried blocking off the grill but I’m not to keen on this because I don’t want to kill the tranny in the mean time.

Your radiator cap could be bad. If the cap is bad, it won't build pressure and may run to cold in the winter. My father just had the same problem with my old 96 sonoma.

I have had the same problem with my 94 for a while now. New rad. cap new 195 degree thermostat. When it ran normal temp. it would get 17-18 mpg now its only getting 15.

Don't rely on the stock guage for exact temp, get a scan tool to check the ACTUAL temp, mine always reads low but my scan tool always reads 195.

Been on 2 different scan tools (Matco and SnapOn). Guage is right on.

Opps, I was refering to my guage, i'm sure most trucks are accurate, but if it is the case that you arn't running at 195 get a second reading.... JMO
