Can I remove the bolt holding the lever under the truck without unintendedĀ  consequences such as a spring popping off, fluid draining, or other issues? Bought the new lever for $15, and I don't want to create a bigger problem. I will use a rubber band or other fix to keep the cable from falling off if replacing the level is more than just a common bolt holding it in place.

There's just a nut holding the lever on to the shift shaft.Ā Ā

Make sure the plastic bushing inside that end of the cable is still there otherwise you need a new shift cable unless someone aftermarket makes that bushing that goes in there.Ā Ā

Thank you very much. In the woods when it fell off I didn't have a light, so it looked like a bolt. I got the nut off with a ratchet with 2 extensions and got the new lever arm installed in 15 minutes. Total bill: $15!
