Fan motor

My fan started running loud, like working overtime, while driving a few days ago. Then kept running after I shut the engine off. The temperature gauge also stayed at the cold reading. Had been driving 20 minutes. 
Any ideas? Thermostat related?

Many times in this case it's the coolant temp sensor that needs to be replaced. It's also possible that the thermostat could be bad as well but replace the sensor first to see how it works out.

 

Edited to add: make sure to replace with OEM. I have seen many threads where aftermarket sensors are used for replacement and end up being faulty.
