I have a 2019 1500 RST, Crew cab/short bed. Was driving one evening, and stalled, and could not start back up. Engine turns over for about 20-30 seconds, doesn't start. It sat overnight, and then started working, and worked fine for a couple weeks, then it happened again. The codes I get are P1029 and P129F, which seemed to indicate the Fuel Pump Control Module was the issue. After the first incident I ordered one, so after it happened to me the 2nd time, I installed it. However it still didn't work. So now I'm wondering two things:

1) Does the Fuel Pump Control Module just need to be programmed to work for my vehicle? I'm reading conflicting things about this part and whether it needs programming or not.

OR

2) Is it likely the actual fuel pump that needs to be replaced? Banging the gas tanking w/ a hammer while trying to start didn't seem to work either time I was stalled. I know that doesn't always work, but my truck isn't that old w/ only 35k miles. Pretty lousy if it failed.

Finally-- I have never dealt with any kind of powertrain warranty service. I believe I am still under warranty until next year? Would the fuel system be considered part of the powertrain and likely covered? If that's the case, I'm wondering if I should just tow it to the dealer and get it checked out.

Has anyone dealt with this issue?

can your scanner read fuel pressure, that will tell you quick if the pump is working. the control module is plug and play unless you have a 2019 LD. you are over 3 years, so i doubt there will be warranty on it

Thanks. Called the dealer today, the module doesn't need to be programmed, and confirmed out of warranty. I guess I'm replacing a fuel pump!

Did the fuel pump fix your issue? I'm having the same problem with my 2019 Sierra. Replaced module and fuel pump. Still having same problem.

The module requires setup.  There is no programming per say, but there is a setup procedure:

  1. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode — For 2 min
  2. Ignition/Vehicle » Off — For 2 min
  3. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
  4. Perform the following action: Clear the DTCs.
  5. Start Engine
  6. Verify DTC P1005 is not set
    • If the DTC sets
    1. Perform the following action: Clear the DTCs.
    2. Ignition/Vehicle » Off — For 2 min
    3. Start Engine
    4. Verify the DTC does not set.
      • If the DTC sets » Repeat the procedure starting at step 1
      • If the DTC is not set » Configuration — Complete
    • If the DTC is not set
  7. Configuration — Complete
