I have a 96 silverado 5.7 350 and i was lookin into gettin edelbrock shortie headers and the description on the jegs site reads as follows:

"1996-98 1500 Pickup, 96-97 Suburban 5.7L w/o A.I.R."

what is A.I.R. I know its probably something simple, could somebody fill me in on what this is?

If your 97 has it, it will be located below the alternator. Look down there past the tensioner pulley. If there is a idler pulley there, you have no A.I.R. If you do the pump will be there.

I have yet to see a 96-up that has the pump, so if you do have it post a pic.

The newer ones aren't driven off the serpentine belt drive. They are electric. They usually quite apparent for about 30 seconds on a stone cold startup.

That's probably why I haven't seen one. It is rare to see trucks around here with the pumps on them anyway. In fact I have only seen 1 88-up equipped with it.

If it has A.I.R. there will be metal lines with fittings that go into

your exhaust manifolds. Should be one for each Cyl.

At least that's the way I've seen them.

I've not seen the electric pump; sounds like a good move

to maintain horsepower.
