I was checking into scholarship info at a college, and was looking at the colleges scholarships, and they has a grid(excel type) info chart set up on the one I have. One of the coloums lists the qualifications you need. according to this chart MADE by the college, I only qualify for ONE scholarship. So I'm telling these guys at school that I'm not going there right off to save money by going to a cheaper school(first two years don't matter that much), since that 1 scholarship is the only one I can get.

"here's the kicker"

This guy tells me if I send in a scholarship form, requesting EVERY scholarship, so basically out of the 10 or so, including the other 9 I don't meet the requirments for, that they will send me multiple scholarships(yes, I will get scholarships I don't qualify for). When I told him he's wrong we ended up yelling b/c he claims he is right.

Please don't hold back anything, if you think this concept is as stupid as I do, I want to pirnt this threat off for him with a nice big. In fact I know a college dean I'm gonna run this by to get her opinion.

I never received any scholarships for college, but you are right just because you send in a request for umpteen scholarships dosn't mean you will get them. You will only receive money from grants you are eligble for, these people do check cridentials and records. Whites can't get minority scholarships, rich kids can't get money established for poor people etc. One other note, research scholarships online, student loans through places like sallie mae and check the library when I started college there was a book thicker than the unabridged dictionary full of scholarships and grants.

Not sure what you are asking, but you can recieve more than one at the same time...As long as you qualify. But applying (or even qualifying) doesn't mean you will get it.

Unless the person/people awarding the scholarship have a stipulation that you can't take from more than one scholarship....That's pretty rare though.

wing, that's what my point was. he was telling to apply for the ones I DON'T qualify for also, becuase he thinks I still have a chance of getting them.

I have a few friends that have gotten scholarships that they didn't qualify for....Only because they were the only ones that applied for that particular scholarship, and the person awarding it went ahead and gave it to them anyway.

....But.....That was before the internet. Probably harder to find one that hasn't been applied for now.

It can happen though.

Hell I would send in forms for scholarships that you "Almost" qualify for, you never know...the worst they can do is say no. The college I went to I didn't even apply for a scholarship, but I got a letter in the mail saying I'd get 2200 a semester because of all the community service I did in highschool. Note-not because I was in Juvi, because I needed 80 hours a year in HS to graduate. They even gave it to me my super senior year. I think it completely depends on how many people they have apply. If it happens to be an off year, and people are just below the requirements, I would imagine that they would throw them a bone.

I guess my point is....send them in, ya never know

I used to work in admissions at a college and I know they did give out a few scholarships to people that did not qualify for them, hoever it was VERY RARE. It woudl either be because no one else applied that did qualify or because they got some kind of special circumstance waiver to part of the requirements. BUt I would go ahead and apply for them all, you never know you might be one of those lucky people. It's unlikely, but possible.

cant hurt to send it in. check with your counselor at you high school too - there may be other local scholarships that you could qualify for.

there is lots of school aid/scholarships out there to be had - just have to find them in your area...

Since I'm a returning student and already have a bachelors degree, I am now inelligible for ANY scholarships. Even though I have a 4.0 GPA! BUTTHEADS! Oh well, try www.fastweb.com. I got back like 30 or 40 scholoarships, many just require a transcript and maybe a essay. Most of these scholarships were however military basedif that matters to ya. Good luck.

4.0 LMAO....my motto was always "2.0 and go". Actually now that I look back on it...college really was easy....if I had just applied myself the frist 4 years I was there I would have gotten some pretty good grades, but I probably wouldn't have had nearly as much fun. I'm jealous....I wanna be a freshman again :) O well...it's nice to have a pay check
