I know this is the wrong forum but I'm guessing it's the most popular one and I need an answer NOW

I'm trying to change my water pump, so far I've removed the radiator shroud, radiator, radiator hoses, etc.

I now have the fan in my way

There are 4 bolts attaching the fan to the pulley.

I try to loosen a bolt, the pulley moves

I reattached the serpentine belt, hoping it's hold it, but the pulley still turns.

How do I get the damn fan off????

And since I have the radiator out, should I go ahead and replace it with another one? Someone said factory it's a 2 chamber and I should get a 3 chambered one?  How much should I expect to pay for a new radiator?

Well thanks for any help guys.  BTW it's an 88 GMC Jimmy S15 2.8l auto

I need to get this done today so fast replies are very much appreciated.

never mind, i just used some common sense and tightened the belt tensioner which in turn held the pulley in place while i broke the nuts free

now i have clear access to my water pump, but there's a power steering bracket blocking 2 of the screws, a bracket i paid someone $140 to put on and now i have to take it off somehow :ticked off:

don't have the tools now.. need a special star screwdriver for the screws on the water pump and i need to get the pulley off the power steering pump to get that bracket off...

i hate my life

Put a box end wrench on one of the bolts where it will press against the pulley.  Then use another wrench/ratchet to loosen one of the other bolts.  On the next to the last bolt, leave it threaded in 3-4 threads and loosen the last one.

I have two words for you.  IMPACT GUN!  Now you know why mechanics get paid what they do. Working on cars and trucks is a pain in the tail, and when you don't have the right tools or know-how it is even worse.
