Silveado_Sierra_TSB_Diesel_RearNoise_DuramaxEngine.jpg

If you own a 2020-2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax, you might have noticed an annoying squeak or clunk coming from the left rear leaf spring. GM has identified the cause—diesel fuel contamination from the filler neck running down onto the spring bushing. Over time, this fuel exposure can break down the rubber, leading to the noise. GM has issued TSB PIT6177B, which outlines a dealer fix covered under warranty, including replacing the leaf spring if necessary and installing a foam seal around the fuel filler pipe to prevent further contamination.

For those out of warranty, the fix is straightforward and can be done at home with basic tools and materials. I’ve detailed the problem, GM’s official solution, and a step-by-step DIY guide in the full article. Has anyone here dealt with this issue? If so, what was your experience—did you take it to the dealer or fix it yourself? Let’s get a discussion going and share solutions for anyone dealing with this headache.

We've got the entire writeup about the fix here: https://www.gm-trucks.com/silverado-sierra-leaf-spring-squeak-tsb-fix/

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax. I was having this issue and just got my truck back today from the dealer. They replaced both rear leaf springs. My factory warranty had run out but it was covered under the extended warranty I purchased.

For the refreshes, they added a monoleaf for the non max-tow/NHT versions. I wonder if this applies to both?
