K&N Filter Cold Air Induction

I had a K&N Cold Air Kit on my 2000 suburban. It did help on the mileage and increased the power somewhat, but what I dio not like about it was it made my 5.3 sound like an old Holley 4 barrel carb when I gave it gas. I ended up taking it off because of the annoyance. I now have a 2500 crew 4x4 with the 6.0 and was wandering if I were to get the kit or just the replacement filter would I hear that same "moan"? I buddy of mine just put a filter in his 99 2500 and it moans like crazy.

I think you would be better off spending the $$ on a custom chip or programmer and just get the drop in filter. I did not feel any real noticable power increase(maybe a little on the top end) and my mileage did get any better. Like you said it does sound like a old 4 barrel when you get on it, so I would spend my $$ elsewhere if I had to do it over again...

I have the K&N drop-in filter and you don't get any additional noise over the stock filter. I'm pretty unimpressed with the filter and actually think it hurts my performance. I'm in the process now of "testing" the paper filter.

If you dont mind, posting the results of your test when your done. I also put a drop in in my 03 and i know my gas milage decreased by 2 miles per gallon. I am using it conjunction with a flowmaster 50suv.

a few things, i just called KNN and they advised that if the computer was not reset (battery disconected) your MPG will drop. OBDII is self learning so it will adjust the system to try to get back to how it was. Eventually you will get more MPG if you leave it alone. the more miles since the computer was reset the longer it will take. They also offer a 100% customer satisfaction so they will refund you for it, but its up to the retailer you bought it from if they charge a restock fee.

I'll post my findings once I'm done. My curosity was started when driving over a local mountain pass. I thought the engine was downshifting sooner with the K&N than the paper filter. With the K&N I had 1,500 miles logged, averaging 30+mph and 13.5mpg. So far with the paper filter, I have 500 miles, 25mph average and 12mpg. Its not surprising that my mpg has dropped since my average speed has dropped, so hopefully a couple of big trips will help bump the average speed up so we can isolate the mpg from the other parts of the equation.

I had a k&N fipk installed last year, it really hasnt help mileage or hurt it, but I do notice that it picks up speed a lot quicker than it did. Before with the stock air box it seemed like the engine ran out of air when I was passing people.

I had a k&n drop in installed with a magnaflow exhaust and there is a noticable difference in power and mileage The mileage went from 11.5 to 13.0 over about 300 miles. I haven't noticed more intake noise from the intake ,sounds about the same but maybe its because of the sweet sound of the magnaflows I noticed pulling the trailer i had more power up the hills than i did before.

I'm also getting the westers program which should definitely help.

You all LOST mileage with a K&N??? I noticed about a 3 mpg increase w/ flows and k&n. Maybe that 454 is still too restricted lol

I want to add a dual tailpipe set up to my Flowmaster 50. I read alot about loosing low end torque and would appreciate your advise.

 

I have 2.75 pipes going in and out, single side exhaust. If I ad a y after the output do I go with these same size pipes out both sides and how does that effect power ect? I am pretty new to this...

I heard yesterday that k&n doesn't have a cold air induction for the 03 and 04 sierra 2500 hd only drop in replacements. Is this true and if so whats up with that?

they are working on it for the 02 and 03 and 04. cant make every thing at once.
