revrnd Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 (edited) I purchased a TS501 & am setting it up for the vehicle (2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD). I'v selected the make & model, but I'm stumped as to this screen: Is there a way to know which selection I should make? The truck was built in June of 2023. I have 2 sets of wheels, the OEM rims & a set of steel rims w/ Schrader sensors marked 315/433. The OEM rims are currently on the truck. Any other tips for newbies? Edited April 23, 2025 by revrnd
revrnd Posted April 23, 2025 Author Posted April 23, 2025 (edited) OK, I tried the 1st choice nothing. I used the 2nd: & it worked. After 'manually' checking the sensors: Switching the pressure units & reviewing info: Surfing around the menus, I haven't seen where to 'write' or create a threshold pressure. Chuck FB Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 I am not sure about the other sensors you have in programming them as the Gm OEM ones in your wheels now are programmed and as far as I know the ones over the counter from GM of the same part number are supposed to work out of the bag with no pre programming either ( and I realize that wasn't really your question ). There is actually a thread on this forum from not that long ago where the member from Vermont did a video with his 508 and if what I attempt to explain does not work for you I will dig up that thread. So when you first turn on your unit do you have a choice called "Advanced Mode", that should be what you select and then choose your vehicle brand and model. Then it will jump you to the very screen you have pictured but this is where it gets weird as the newer trucks don't have a selection to change the placard pressure ( and no it does not say placard pressure on the Autel, it says "Tire Type/Pressure Selection" ). Ok so be on the screen you pictured, and you go down to choice number 4 which as it says is the 2022 through 2023 year and also states 433 mhz and the important part number of these newer GM tpms sensors which is 13542532. Choose that number 4 choice and then the next screen has 5 choices and in fact it is that bottom choice number 5 that says "Tire Type/Pressure Selection". Choose that and the unit should now say "Connect to OBD port and turn ignition on". So that is where you connect your cable to the obd and your Autel and start the truck. From there info comes up that the truck is telling the Autel unit and from what I recall there should be two lines, one asks to check to see what the current tire type/pressure selection the truck is set at ( do that first and see what the respective axles say they are set to ). Then back out of that and choose the other choice and there you will see all the listings psi wise that you can choose from on the axle you have just chosen. Once you scroll to the psi you want I believe you hit the center radar looking button ( I don't believe the Yes button works for that selection ). From there it should hop to the other axle I think unless you have to back up one to chose the axle. The Autel unit when not plugged into the truck can't show all this as I sit here at my laptop typing this as it has to be plugged into the vehicle to talk to it to bring up that info. If this explanation works, great but of not then its on to watching that video on this site and that members chosen name is so much like yours that I can't remember it LOL. Note, if you chose on that very screen you pictured any of lines 1 , 2, 3, they do not have the choice "number 5" when it advances to the next screen where it can change the placard pressure, I have no idea why but its not programmed into it for the newer trucks and yet it works to choose line 4 on the screen you pictured for my 2025 truck and should for your 2024 truck. And if you mistakenly chose number 5 choice on the screen you pictured, that is the wrong sensor part number so that isn't the choice to make either.
revrnd Posted April 23, 2025 Author Posted April 23, 2025 (edited) So after reading the thread in the link, I checked to see if I could proceed w/ the workaround using the '22/'23 info. The sensor PNs match (13542523), so let's try it. After doing this: So far so good. This matches the info for my truck. After editing the pressures: Success! Edited April 23, 2025 by revrnd 1

I would have to go through mine hooked up to the vehicle to see if it lists it the same way, maybe it did say placard on the screen once it was reading off of the trucks system. I don't imagine you had issues with the front running 50 and it triggering the dash but the rear would have been jumping out at you. As I mentioned before I am not subscribed to the GM onstar system but I suspect they still would have sent me emails to warn me about my low tire pressures if corporate GM had my email address which I believe they do not. The salesman uses an alternate email address on a few of his clients papers so that they ( and I am one of them ) hear squat from Mother GM, so far I only hear from the dealership contacting me if they need to by phone or email. Now you can experiment to see how low you can go before it triggers either of the axles if you feel like it or the other way as per the rear being pumped up and if it will trigger from being above a certain threshold. 1
revrnd Posted April 23, 2025 Author Posted April 23, 2025 (edited) I did notice that there doesn't appear to be any 'field' for tire type w/ the TS501. Edited April 23, 2025 by revrnd
revrnd Posted April 24, 2025 Author Posted April 24, 2025 (edited) I tried holding the tool by the Schrader sensors (1 @ a time) from my winter rims (stripped for painting & new tires) So it appears that Autel tool will recognise other aftermarket sensors. Edited April 24, 2025 by revrnd
revrnd Posted May 17, 2025 Author Posted May 17, 2025 OK, so now that I'll be towing my trailer, is there a workaround to raise the threshold above 65 psi (the limitation of the edit function) to 80 psi as per the door jamb sticker?

Did you ever discover how to revert back to the 80 psi setting as i had noticed that as well on my TS508 that I believe its a maximum pressure of 65 that it goes up to which seems odd but have not dug into it as to how to get back to 80 if I wanted to. On another note I had swapped to my winter wheels/tires for the first time a few days ago, ones I had rounded up last year to have winter tires mounted up and ultimately had the proper GM sensors installed into those wheels this year. The truck took a while to figure out the new sensors as I drove slowly down the gravel road and after a mile and a half the new pressures popped up. That's definitely the route I would do again now, realizing the truck needs those certain tpms sensors to work its magic for either swapping wheels or doing tire rotations.

I suppose if its possible to contact Autel one could attempt that to give them a prod to update that area of the software if its just that simple and would expect a higher end tool by another brand may not have this oddity about their reprograming system.
