cheapie408 Posted April 28, 2025 Posted April 28, 2025 When using a fixed hitch towing my boat, I was using a 3" drop. Truck isn't lifted and will remain stock. Looking to buy weight safe aero hitch and debating if I should get a 4 or 6". My main concern with the 6" is when I go on curve with the potential of the hitch bottoming out. I don't tow multiple trailer, it'll be just the one boat with the exeption of towing a uhaul trailer in the coming months. Any reason to get the 6" if I don't ever plan on lifting the truck?
JP642 Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 I cannot speak to the Aero hitch but I have a stock 22 Sierra with a B&W Stow and Go hitch with a 4.5 inch drop - I tow a horse trailer only and that hitch provides more than enough adjustability for me. My hitch has bottomed out but only on an extreme driveway or curb. On my vehicle, 6 inch would be too much - just my two cents.
cheapie408 Posted April 30, 2025 Author Posted April 30, 2025 Thanks, I have the same problem sometime with the 3" drop. Sounds like the 4" hitch is the way to go.
redwngr Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Is the boat trailer level with the existing 3" drop?
cheapie408 Posted April 30, 2025 Author Posted April 30, 2025 yes it was, measured from ground to hitch then level the boat on jacks then measured again and took the difference. That's how I got to the measurement as I remember. It's been awhile but short answer is yes it was level.
Port Tack Farm Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 I have the 4" Weigh Safe for my Sierra 1500 SLT Regular Box and it works well with multiple trailers. I wouldn't consider a 6" unless I had a 2500 or 3500 or a lifted 1500. 1
