Anyone know what GM adds to the vehicle with the states that require emissions vs the states that don’t on 6.2 engines or the vehicle it self?

I saw this listed on one that was on a build dealer inventory list. Colorado Connecticut Delaware Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey New York Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island Vermont Virginia, and Washington. But I was surprised California was not on the list. I keep vehicles for 15 to 20 years. I’m sure replacement parts after warranty is out are cheaper without emissions if there is part differences.
I don’t know if it makes a difference whether it has it not, just kind of curious if there’s a drawback from ones that do have emissions

Thanks

Nothing now really aside from emissions warranty timeframe.  Mechanically they all use the same catalytic converter and emissions equipment and its been this way for some time now.

Ok Thanks.
I didn’t know there was a difference warranty for emissions. Thought it was covered under the GM warranty you get when you buy it.

thanks 😊

There are multiple warranties on new GM vehicles.

A 2025 gas Tahoe that was ordered for NY state (one of the 13 CARB states) for example has the following:

*Emission Limited Warranty - 50,000 MI*

*Emission Select State Component Ltd Wty - 70,000 MI*

Restraint System Limited Warranty - 72,000 MI

Powertrain Limited Warranty - 60,000 MI

Bumper to Bumper Limited Warranty - 36,000 MI

Corrosion Limited Warranty - 100,000 MI

*Emission Select Component Ltd Wty - 80,000 MI*

Incandescent Exterior Bulb Ltd Wty - Unlimited Miles

But.  If I check warranty on a 2025 gas Tahoe in Florida which is not one of those 13 CARB states, it only has the following:

Powertrain Limited Warranty - 60,000 MI

*Emission Select Component Ltd Wty - 80,000 MI*

Bumper to Bumper Limited Warranty - 36,000 MI

Incandescent Exterior Bulb Ltd Wty - Unlimited

Corrosion Limited Warranty - 100,000 MI

Restraint System Limited Warranty -72,000 MI

So NY being a CARB state (one of those 13) has more emissions warranty coverage than a non CARB state vehicle.

Back 10+years ago, GM did used to have different catalytic converters for federal and CARB states but they phased that out and went all CARB compliant 50 state compliant with them which makes things much easier.

With recent laws too, if you are in a CARB state, you must replace a failed cat with a CARB compliant cat.  So if I had a federal cat car from 2010 for example and am registered in NY, GM and auto parts stores will only sell CARB compliant replacement cats for that vehicle.  And they've gone way up in price too.  You can still get non CARB cats but you have to get "creative" on how to get them as most won't even ship non CARB to CARB states anymore.
