1998 1500 engine swap

I have a 98 chev 1500 with a 4.3L V-6, i like my truck and dont want a new one, but i want more power, any ideas, and more....I want to put in a larger engine, anything from a 305 to a 350 to a 502, i am wondering what all i would need to do the swap, new computers? new tranny? new rear diff.? and so on, any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Well if it's in decent shape, have you considered just supercharging the engine you have? Be a lot easier than swapping out the whole mess. Just a thought.

 

And I believe that the puter you have should work with the same generation V8 engines, but you will have to have it flashed....I may be way off on that one though.

 

If you are looking at going big block, then you would most likely be going with a carb....No computer needed there.

 

Oh, and any increase in HP will always be a strain on drivetrain components, so yes, you might consider upgrading those as well.

 

Cool Zr2 put in a 305, then a 350 to replace the 4.3 he had in his ZR2, he would probably be able to help you quite a bit. Having done it twice.
