I'm not looking for anyone else recommended psi or anything, I'm just looking to see if anyone knew a way to get rid of the factory low psi warning light, because I'm not running high psi and ruining my tires when I'm not towing! 

 

 

 

 

You SHOULD be.  IF you underinflate, you can compromise the truck's handling and stopping.  Its an 8400lbs truck.  LOTS of weight on the front end empty.  

 

Ideally you'll want 55-60psi all the way around.  

 

Tire light.  GM dealers won't help.  LIABILITIES.  Others have mentioned tools that exist.  That will be your only route.

In the motorhome world, people refer to tire manufacturer's pressure-weight charts to determine a good PSI for their motorhome tires.

 

What they do is get axle weights for the vehicle at a CAT scale or other scale. Drive on, drive off, the scale spits out a ticket with the weight over each axle. Then, you know the approximate weight per tire on that axle. Then, you refer to the pressure/weight chart published by the manufacturer and set the tire PSI accordingly.

 

Of course, you will want to adjust (and know how much to adjust) when you decide to carry more weight. For everyday unloaded ride, bringing down the PSI within a safe range that still adequately supports the vehicle's weight relative to the construction of the tire can really help with ride quality and under/over-inflated wear issues.

 

I don't see why it would be any different for a pickup. The key is the tire needs to be rated to support the load safely at the PSI you've selected.

Thanks everyone for the help!

 

I'm going to stop into the scales one of these days and weigh my axels, for the time being, I am going to run Toyo's recommendations and also do a chalk test.

I have a tire shop that's going to try their scanner to reprogram and set the the factory psi values lower, and if they can't I'm going to order a scanner and do it myself!

You may have come across this chart before and ironically this is a Toyo printed chart but it applies to all brands of tire types typically sold in north america since they build the tires off of the same standardized guide lines. Page 32 I think is where you will find your tire size and type to use as a guide along with weighing each axle individually to figure out your minimum pressure you can carry safely at highway speed. 

 

See what your tire guy comes up with as I would be surprised if they don't have a tool that can do it as long as they know how to navigate the tool to find the right area for placard reprogramming.

    • I went to order some PF63 oil filters from an on line GM parts source, and the blue PF63 oil filters seem to be getting phased out. They show the new part number as 19363567, which is a black colored AC Delco Silver product apparently marked PF63A. Some sites show a part number 12693541, which is a black colored AC Delco Ultragard Gold filter marked UPF63R.    I assume the UPF63R is the better one, but I’d be happy if I could just get blue PF63 filters I’ve been using.    Can anyone explain what is going on with the filter part number changes and any actual design changes?  Any other advice on buying OEM filters right now?  Thanks

    • Only TAN I have for the product was at 5K in service miles and it was 2.71
    • If anyone lands here looking for an update - the problem wasnt with the hose, the clamp, etc... I purchased a metal Thermostat housing that just must not of been made to spec. It just wouldn't plug up the hose.. Went back to a plastic cheap housing - leak fixed. Some plumbers tape carefully placed in tandem with a clamp likely would've gotten the job done.   Best,
    • For anyone following, this is what I have deduced from this forum - and my very specific niche case. Please do let me know if you see me going in the wrong direction here. For context, I have a 16 sierra 1500 w/t. Has TC and Cargo light switches. Removed the switch to find the X1 and X2 of the S48A connection populated with wires (x1 10-14, and x2 1-5).   Took photos of the X61A-X5 to find the wires from S48A-X1 land here at their respective pins (10, 11, 17, 23 on the X5). Was hopeful that this means my X51A fuse box has the appropriate pins... No cigar. So now I will be routing wires from the rear of the X61A-X1 to the engine bay and to their respective negative relay triggers. Please see to the diagram. If any has insight as to where the S48A-X2 pins 4 and 5 land that would be awesome.   Will be attempting this sometime shortly and will likely make a youtube video out of it.   Note: please disregard fuse sizes.
