squeaky squeaky brakes

2002 tahoe w/ 24k miles, and under light braking the brakes squeak not high pitch but loud enough to hear with windows closed. dealer told me thats b/c they are metallic pads. had it since i can remember, dunno what to do and sick of ppl makin fun of my truck.

Sometimes you can soften or eliminate the squeal by removing the pads and applying an "anti-squeal" compound to the back of the pads and then reinstall them. It's sorta like a glue that keeps the pads backing plates in contact w/the calipers,forms a thin layer to help keep the metal 2 metal vibrations down. Hope this helps....You can usually pick some up at your local parts store..the book jockey. .uh .. counter/sales person should know where to find it

my 03 does the same thing but only when it gets really cold (temp) i have noticed. it is pretty annoying. i didnt think it should happen at only 20k miles but is it... it does go away once the disks warm up.

You shouldn't have to put ANY anti-squeal stuff on your brakes You already did, it's called warranty.

Barring any more serious problem (leaking axle seal or the like.. but you would feel that in the pedal) the noise comes from dust/dirt/grime/corruption and harmonics that occur as you apply the brakes and the pads vibrate.

Mine did it when it was newer as well, and still does occaisionally. I booked a warranty-service appointment for it. I like to bring my truck in to the dealer service dept nice and clean. The premise being that if I bring it to them in A-1 condition, they will realise I take care of my truck and expect them to do so as well.

Lo-and-behold: After getting myself quite damp by kneeling under the truck and hosing myself off with the spray-back from the pressure washer... Yes, spraying the $hit out of the insides of the rims and the brakes... It went away.

I would start there. I hope that this is all you require to cure the annoyance. Good luck.

Holy crap, I thought I invented that

Mine squeel too on my 2001 Tahoe.. I hate it Makes the truck sound like a piece of $h1T!!

Anyway. I noticed if I bast the rotors, calipers and pads real good with a pressure washer every time I wash the truck it goes away.. Of course it comes back in about 2 weeks...just in time to wash it..

i havent had a chance to drive the '02 yet, i did hose it down extra when i washed the truck the other nite, but this week im goin to get the pressure washer out and give it a good cleanin.
