Component Door Speakers

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 Silverado extended cab with a Pioneer 7500 deck, 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect sub, and a Memphis amp. This week I noticed my speaker making a really weird noises and have decided that it was blown.

I would like to add a set of component speakers to my truck's front doors. I am looking at a set from Infinity because I love their sub and they seem to have a good reputation.

Questions:

1. How involved is the install? Details would be much appreciated, pictures too.

2. Will my aftermarket deck be enough to power some Infinity Kappa's? Or should I plan on adding another amp (I really don't want to).

3. Where can I get the best deal on this stuff? (Ebay has been good to me in the past. I got my deck and sub off of there in August and it's been perfect.) Any other brands I should be looking at?

4. Are components worth it? Or should I just throw in some 2 or 3 way speakers and be just fine?

5. What size speakers fit in the doors, 5.5" or 6.5"?

Thanks guys.

components are definately worth it. Question is will the deck power them, yes, but most likely not even close to the optimal performance of the speakers. Not too familiar with the infinity stuff or what they have available (im a Boston Acoustics fan) but they may have something will a lower rating. Install is pretty simple just need to snake the wires to the speakers and find a spot for the crossover. They are 6.5"

You can order the Infinity Kappa Components from Crutchfield (if you want to pay the money). I think you can also get them at Best Buy or Circuit City.

well they say 2-90w rms so they will work but would probably sound much better with an amp

check out this link, I use them all the time, good service and good prices $189 for the Kappas

1. Install isn't very difficult, but you will have to figure out a way to mount the tweeters, and the crossover.

2. Your head unit will power them, but an amp will make them sound a LOT better. It's just a cleaner, stronger power. More than any head unit will provide.

3. If you trust Ebay, then that is one of the cheaper places to get them.

4. Yes, components are worth it.

5. 5.5" or 6.5" will work....But bigger is better, in my opinion.

I'm not sure what pics I have of that part of my install, but I'll take a look, and see if there are any that might be of help. I'll post them in here if I do.

Wingnut is right on the ball when it comes to component install - he helped me/ convinced me to go the component route.....and I couldn't be happier.

I installed Infinitis in my Reg cab 02 a couple weeks back....and they sound awesome! - This is with the factory deck too!

Go with the components - you wont be dissapointed.

I dont have any pics of my install - but there is some info in the audio section.

You might also consider adding q-form kick panels while you are installing the components. I have installed component sets both ways and it is much easier with the q-forms and the soiund imaging is much better too.

Since you seem comfortable with eBay, check there for the kick panels. you can usually get a set for around $100 (muuuuch cheaper than retail!)

I just installed these about 2 weeks ago and have been pretty happy with them. Definitely taking the wires thru the door boot is the way to go. I used 15 feet of 16 gauge wire I got at a local stereo shop and it was just enough. Also the factory wires for the speakers come down into a harness under the plastic panel in the footwell and are split coming out of that, one set to the tweeter and one to the woofer. I just clipped that wire where it came into the harness and ran that to the input on the crossover.

The tweeters were actually about the easiest part of it all. I used an 1 3/4" hole saw and just drilled out the old tweeter on that triangular plate and the Kappas come with everything else you need for it.

They also come with the brackets for the woofers to fit too. I used the larger of the two metal ones that came with the speakers. I also got a Dynamet Extreme door kit for them and it was definitely worth it.

Also I would recommend getting them from Sounddomain. They are authorized, so you get the Infinity warranty. Also they price match about anything you come to them with, you will see how to do it on their site. So really they always have the cheapest prices, they have not turned me down once on a match, they wouldn't match an Ebay seller though. I got them for $145 with free shipping from Sounddomain.
