Pitman arm change

I've replaced just about every steering and suspension component on a '88 Silverado with 151k miles on it and the one thing left is the Pitman arm. On a 4X4, there is a pan welded to the frame that is just under the steering box. I don't see how there's room to pull the Pitman arm off with pulling the entire steering box out first. Anybody got an idea as to the path of least resistance (work?)

Got a pic?

I replaced the idler arm and pitman arm on my 89 a couple of times, and once on my 92. Never had anything in the way.
