Low interest rates have me thinkin about getting a ZR2 Blazer again and just wondering how reliable have your trucks been? Have they spent more time at the dealership then your driveway or are they good trucks, what kind of problems have you had?

Thanx in advance.

I've had my 2000 Z for almost two years now and the only problem I've had with it is the vacuum harness that switches between 2wd and 4wd went out.

It took about 20 minutes for the dealership to replce it so it was more of an inconvienience than a real problem.

I really have no complaints about my truck and I would buy another if something were to happen to mine tomorrow.

I get between 15 & 16 mpg in the city and it really turns heads with the lack of other Z's in my area.

Word of advice:A lot of Z Blazer owners have complained about rear end sagging problems. It is easily fixed for less than $50 and about an hour of time with handtools and a jack along with a couple of jack stands.

If you buy a blaZeR2 and have that problem, email me off board and I'll put you in the right direction to solve the problem.

I had a '96 S-10 2wd w/ a 4 banger.  I only had it a year, had to sell it and get a 4wd (wisconsin's too rough for a 2wd).  But it was a very reliable truck.  Never had hardly any problems with it.  I'd go for that blazer ZR2, I would've bought one but I needed a pick up and they don't have enough leg room for a tall man such as myself.

I had a ZR2 S10 for 14 months and 16,000 completely trouble free miles.  I loved the truck!  The only reason I traded it in was because I wanted to go full-size, so I got a Silverado Z71.

I have a 2 wheel drive 95 s-10 2.2 liter t-5 tranny. I bought the truck used 3 years ago with 28,000 miles on it. The first problem I had was due to an incompetint mechanic installing a grease fitting for the clutch fork and not properly lubricating the throw out bearring I discoverd this within the first 1000 miles though a verry minor proble the dealer in NY refused to honor the extendend warranty I had purchased because I had moved to Georgia claimint that "anything related to the clutch was a normal wear item" They and the local dealer both tried to argue with me over what the actual problem was. Saying it was just the ball stud and all they would do is install the grease fitting that was allready there. Having allready been stressed out from the move, driving 4,000 miles in 10 days I blew up on the NY dealer threatening to write to gm, the dealership owner, etc... They offered to pay for any parts I asked for but not labor so I got a whole new clutch assembly and oil pan. I installed it all myself in about 3 hrs with hand tools. and took the dry and worn throwout berring to the service writer at the local dealship just to prove him wrong.

2 years and 45,000 more miles later I had some idiot install a wiring harness for a 450 watt amp and he bent my cooling fan which broke 2 days later. I did not bother replacing it I just got a performance 14 blade electric fan and used spacers to keep the pulley alligned with no clutch fan. then arround 89,000 miles the wipers messed up and would just stop working this was an easy fix that took about 10 miniutes simply replace the wiper motor cover.

So now at 96,000 miles and my truck has never left me stranded, allways started, gets 30mpg, still has lots of get up and get (4:11 gears, hiflow exahust help), and the three Minor problems were Minor and quick to fix. I should mention that I have yet to give it a tune up.

I have had my 01 ZR2 for close to 10 months now and other than the one check engine light came on and a small squeek in the 3rd door *fixed by the dealer as well* the truck has been nothing but great to me!

I dont know the kind of driving you do or what but i m mostly a highway driver and also i baby my truck so i get around the 20 MPG in town and around 24 highway..

If i can recommend something else.. If you like the colour go with Indigo Blue! *Stay away from black *

how long will GM continue to produce the 2 door blazers?

I think until 2003. But I'm not certian, they could be gone after the 2002 model or you may see a 2003. So far, no 2-door is planned for the T-Blazer. ??? When I bought my 2001 X Blazer, I was informed that that was gonna be the last year for the current styled Blazer because of the T-Blazers being 2002, but I guess the dealer was wrong, oh well. So far, I still have only seen about three other X Blazers in my area. (South FLA)

Sorry for being off the subject but, Chevy4x4trucks, is that flag painted on your bowtie there, if so, how did you do that? When I brought my Blazer home, first thing I did was get rid of that gold bowtie all around the truck (I hate gold) and I painted all them silver, but I wouldn't mind painting Ol' Glory on there! Thanx in advance.....

Well, over the years, I've had 2 S-10 p/u's, three S-10 Blazer's and 1 Bravada.  All in all they have been stone cold reliable.

One of those S-10 Blazer's was a 1983, 2.0L 4 cyl, 5 spd manual 4x4.  This thing didn't have the power to get out of it's own shadow, but the thing lasted 396,000 miles on the original engine and had 425,000 when I sold it a few years back.

The 94 Bravada I had I put 30,000 miles on it in 6 months with nary a problem.  Traded it in on my Tahoe.

Other than normal maintanance, and age related replacement parts (primarily that 83) they started in the dead of winter, lasted through Chicago rush hours, and survived 110 degree summer heat.

I got a sticker and layed it over the bowtie (off the truck of course) and, tucked it over the edges and trimmed it.  It took me about 20 minutes, trying to do the best quality job and to avoid air bubbles.

2001 4x4 s-10 Crew Cab 6000 miles now - About 6 road trips between Asheville NC (my new home) and Huntsville AL (my old home) with no problems.  I have been pleasantly surprised.  The more I drive it the more I like it...Jim

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
