Mighty HD Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 How much capacity does the front/rear axles have on the 2500 hd's? I hit 500mi last night and am going to change everything over to synthetic today...
linda Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 im not exactly sure, but mine took about 2 or 2.5 quarts in the front and about 4 or 4.5 quarts in the back.
GMCTech Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 Your rear is just about 5 pints - front about 3 or 4. Just to let you know, the rear already has synthetic in it. The front is easy just fill until it overflows. The rear should be filled until it is 15 -40mm below the fill hole. I usually fill until just a 1/2 inch below fill hole. Hope this helps.
Mighty HD Posted March 31, 2004 Author Posted March 31, 2004 I relized it had synthetic in it once I smeled the grape scent...lol All that's left to change is the transfer case. I did find a ton of metal on the drain plug for the front end. A few slices that were more than an inch long
Chevyfreek Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Just ordered everything I need to do the front and rear diffs and the t-case myself. I am going Amsoil sysnthetics in all. May get to it this weekend. When you guys changed the diff fluids did you drive the the vehicle in 4wd to get the diffs warmed up to allow the old gear lube to drain better? Also is there a drain plug on the rear diff for and 01' HD or do I have to remove the cover and get a new gasket? Thanks...
