Well, finally have one of my own that was picture worthy.

Tounge broke off the main disk frame on me due to almost thirty years of fatigue when I was headed out to the field on last Saturday afternoon.

You can see the fresh breaks, it is supposed to be solid weld along each side of the two "forks." The plate that connects the two is also supposed to be one piece, the half on the forks on the left, the other half bolted to the tounge on the right, it was now two.

Got it fixed and was disking again by noon Monday.

Ouch...at least it wasn't too hard of a fix though. I don't think some of the equipment you have shown before was even fixable.

Hey JP glad to see you still can get online everyonce in a while. The best thing for you to do would be to get a good disk to start with!!!! You gotta go RED for the best in implempents. And I'm not talking about the new reds but some good old International Harverster!!!!

That sucks. Did ya have to break out the arc welder to fix that tihng? Had a similar problem with an old hydra-swing a few years ago. The tongue broke right where it was welded to the hitch. Had to trash it. Guess they had a rash of problems with some particular Deere swathers way back when. Stress fractures in the welds on the tongue. Oh well, self propelled is less work than a dam hydra-swing!!!

Na, wasn't that bad of a breakage, coulda been a lot worse (as in, happen on the road). I don't have a good welder yet, that steel would just laugh at my little ol thing so we had a welder patch it back together. Biggest ordeal was finding a 1" diameter bolt that we needed, had to order it (22 bucks for a 7" long bolt). Used a hitchpin in its place to get through the day.

Jim, you are right, its a POS disk, a 490 or 496 would kick ass, but we'd be fools to spend money to trade as little as we use one. I've been telling people that the red thing on the front is just too powerful for that green implement.

Just a couple pics, I know, I know, boring for most of ya, sorry. What I was preparing to complete once the above breakage happened.

After I disked it, the co-op came and blew on the oat seed and fertilizer with this big ol truck. Its a Loral, built from the ground up to apply fertilizer or seed, 300 horse IH engine.

Then I mulched the seed into the ground.

Then I used this harrow that requires massive amounts of power to get the field nice and smooth for the next four years of hay.

Good to know you're still around tearing up stuff. I miss seeing all of your posts and pics of equipment on here. Glad to see you had a little time to check in though.
