Are Dealership Tranny Filters worth it?

Recommended Posts

Went to the dealership to buy a transmission filter kit. $70. Went to AutoZone, $14.99. Umm...... Is there a difference? I have both with me, both look exactly the same. The AutoZone kit comes with a cork gasket. Not sure what material the GM one has.

I plan on changing the filter every 50k miles.

Also switching to Mobil1 Syn ATF.

Thanks,-w

I paid like $30 for an AC Delco trans filter from partszoneonline (link on the left of your screen)

I certainly wouldn't pay that much for one from the dealership. Go with the Autozone one and you will be alright, or take Ryan's advice and get the AC Delco from a cheaper source (That is what I would do)

An excellent example of how big of a discrepancy there is in filter pricing, we had a Duramax with the Allison...GM dealer wanted $28 for the external tranny filter...bought the exact same filter from the local Allison dealer for $7.20 each. Can GM be that crazy to think we won't shop price for the exact same filter? Must be.....

The AC-Delco filter is made by SPX-Filtran. It is one of, if not the best filter for our 4L60E/4L65E and 4L80E trannys.

O'reilly usually has them for $23 either regular or for the deep pan AND, it comes with the good GM type gasket.

I'm planning on buying an ac delco filter ket from www.gmpartsdirect.com for $31.00

That's not bad at all. I might be willing to pay double over a "generic" brand. But 4x times! ehhhh... no.
