Handsfree phone install kit

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect an aftermarket install kit to the radio mute features? I'm interested in connecting this so that the ringer will cause the radio volume to shut down. There is a button on the steering wheel that does this, but doesn't work if you don't hear the phone ring!!

I don't beleive there is a mute input on the back of your factory radio. You could wire in a relay that would cut the power or sound from your factory radio. Actually you could output the phone kit to one of the speakers in the truck. You just need some relays.

OK, so I'm taking the easy way out, and have set up to have the install kit installed via a pro. He claims that hooking up the 2004 Yukon with a mute is an easy deal.... I'll let you all know how it goes, and what's involved..

Here's the final update for the 04 Yukon....

 

On the factory stereo on the Bose/XM/indash 6CD changer, there's a small pin assembly on the back next to the XM antenna input. The top left pin on the radio is the connection point for the radio mute.

 

It works like a champ. When the phone is dialed or a call comes in, the radio displays phone, and the volume mutes. As soon as the call is ended, the volume comes back.

 

Don't know how many people have a use for this, but it sure helps me out!

That's awesome!! I have an 03 Sierra with the same radio. Hopefully I can utilize this when I install my hands free kit.

I have an Alpine hu and a handsfree kit for my phone, and when I receive a call the hu displays the words interupt and the music stops. Everyone that gets in the truck is like, how do I get mine to do that?!

Let me ask a stupid question.

When you all are talking about hands free kits do you mean hard wired with external antenna, etc. ?

My hands free kit plugs in to one of the aux power ports next to the cig lighter and doesn't have any connections except the microphone.

Can't speak for everyone else here, but the hands-free kit for my LG retails at $199, not the typical $50-$60 units. Difference is it uses a separate speaker, mic, and antenna.

Yes, mine is hard wired with a ProFit mount, external antenna, and hands-free mic.
