Oil Pressure

Ok Guys , I was curious on what other 6.0 L engines had for oil pressure at idle? My motor is running about 40psi @ idle,just wondering what is normal? Every one's answers would be greatly appreciated.As always thanks for your help.

Not unusally with the way GM picks up the oil pressure and sends it to the gauge cluster. Have your local gm service center print you out document # PI01269. It is for the 8.1 liter vortec, but the hardware is the same. There maybe one for 6.0 directly.

is it w/ the engine warm, cool, or cold. The warmer the oil the lower the pressure.

Since the 8.1 has the same hardware, here is what I get with a warm engine (85,000 mi).

Idling in drive 25 psig

Idling in park 30+ psig

Driving 45-60 psig

The wifes 5.7 is almost identical with 111,000 miles.

For what it's worth:

I have a 6.0, 1100 miles on it.

Cold idle: 60 +/-

Hot idle: 40 +/-

hot idle in drive 35-40.

This is with Mobil 1 5w30.

My 6.0L w/16K miles idles at 40 psi hot.

Well I guess my engine is normal then,I'm using Mobil 1,10w30 now and there is no change from 5w30. But I do notice a bit more WSK (warm start Knock)and it doesn't seem to go away.
