Sub & Amp Install

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 z71 ext. cab...

Is there anything I should know/need/watchout for when installing my amp and sub to the factory stereo? Are there any instructions somehwere on how to do this?

You will need a RCA line convertor that you can buy at bestbuy or any stereo shop. I have this on mine.. Can be tricky adjusting it, because you adjust the gain on the convertor and the gain on the amp.. I have mine set up so its quiet when you have it turned down, but really hits hard once the stereo is turned up. Its really simple to do.

There is also the option of adding an amp that takes inputs directly from your speaker wires. This makes installation a little easier than trying to find spots for a couple of LOCs up in the dash.

On my Tahoe, I installed the "RCA line convertors" between the front and rear doors to the rear speaker connections. Luckily GM made it easy and the speaker wires for the rear doors are twisted on each side. I added 1700 watts total. I wired it this way for this reason. I do not always want to be thumping down the road. Sometimes I enjoy some nice soft jass or soft rock as opposed to Creed or Audio slave jamming at those levels. I can simply turn my fader to the front speakers (Bose system) and have some nice soft music. Or, when the little fart car guys get next to me at a light, I can simply turn my fader more towards the rear and make their braces rattle off their teeth. :flag:

As far as instructions, the guys on here have always been completely helpful in assisting people with their installs. There is also a place called "Install Dr"..

this place has wiring details for most vehicles.

Cheers all...

ps: I am not for sure if posting links to other places is cool, so if you pull the link I understand.

Do you have any pictures of your system? I am trying to gather information on what I want to do with my Yukon.

thanks.

I have a few pics, but not a web page to display a link too. If you send me your email address, I will send a few pics of it. Both of my amps are under the back seats mounted on a 12" x 4ft board. the subs are all independant so I can install my third row seating and leave in a few or move them around without having a huge box to move. I do not have pics of the line converters though. If you pop off the plastic liner between the two doors (The verticle liner) you will see several wires. The speaker wires are twisted around each other, and the only wires there that are twisted.

Cheers...

DO NOT USE Line output converters. All that does is convert a dirty amplified signal into a dirty line voltagae signal. Sounds like crap. Use a PAC adapter.

 Why not? Mine sounds just fine.

Better than fine, actually. It's pretty bada$$, if I do say so myself. :D

Most people who post here asking about audio installs, aren't looking for a competition level system. If they were, we would probably help them find a forum specifically for that.

LOCs are fine for 99.9% of the population.

I build high end subs, for as much as $6000 for a Home Theater, been doing this for awhile

When there is an option available, that is a better one, for the same money, that's what I go for, a no-brainer, no matter what the application. The pac adapter is clean, 4 channel reproduction of the original clean signal, not one or 2, adjustable voltage adjustment. even has a hot remote wire for the amp, provides for future speaker upgrading, is plug and play, requires no cutting or splicing, etc. Oh and it also costs the same or less than 4 channels of LOC. Pretty compelling!

If you used a LOC and like it, great, but don't sell the idea of the 2nd best option to 99.9%, just because this is not an audio forum, that's not right. You may not have been aware of the option when you did yours. That is ok, i didn't know about it until it was shown to me. If you were aware of it, I'd say you goofed. But you like yours, don't sweat it.

Do a search, I don't have the time.

Find the time, or quit preaching about how good it is.

I did a search, and couldn't find anything.
